Your first kite holiday

Kitesurfing holidays for beginners

Your first kitesurfing holiday should make learning and everyday travel straightforward. Start with a suitable local Kite Area, a lesson plan you understand and a comfortable place to stay. A famous destination name alone cannot tell you whether a particular beach suits a beginner.

Begin with the individual Kite Area

The atlas records skill suitability at Kite Area level. A destination may include an area marked for beginners alongside other areas intended for more experienced riders. Open the actual area guide and read its water, launch and access notes before deciding where to base yourself. Do not extend a beginner label from one area to every beach in the destination.

The selection below includes only areas where beginner is explicitly recorded. Missing information is not a judgement that an area is unsuitable; it means this guide cannot use it as a beginner starting point. The label is for planning and does not replace the local instructor’s assessment of conditions or your experience on the day.

Arrange lessons before making the stay your final choice

Contact a local school with your dates and tell them exactly what you have done before, including if you have never handled a kite. Ask where lessons take place, how the meeting point is reached, what is included and how teaching is organised. Check the lesson language, group size, equipment arrangements and the process when conditions interrupt a session.

Ask what progress the proposed course is intended to support without treating a fixed number of hours as a promise of independent riding. If you are travelling with another beginner, check whether the same lesson format fits both of you. Keep the teaching location and schedule clear before comparing the convenience of nearby stays.

Choose a stay around the learning routine

Learning days involve more than time on the water. Consider the journey to the lesson meeting point, somewhere to rest between sessions, meal times and what you want to do on a day without a lesson. The most convenient hotel for an experienced rider’s usual launch is not automatically the most convenient base for your course.

A stay linked to a beginner-listed Kite Area gives you a relationship to investigate; it does not establish that a school operates at the hotel or that lessons are included. Read the specific connection, then ask the school and property to confirm the practical route. If you need transport, make that an explicit part of your arrangements.

Keep the itinerary flexible

Allow the holiday to be enjoyable even if the lesson schedule changes. Compare your dates with the local seasonal notes, but avoid building the entire trip around a guaranteed number of riding days. Choose activities and a base that you would still enjoy between sessions. If a partner is not learning, plan how you can each spend that time comfortably.

Before paying, check lesson and accommodation terms separately. Record who confirms your meeting point, when you will hear about the next session and what happens to unused lesson time. Luxury Kitesurfing helps you compare published destination, area and stay information; lessons and travel arrangements are made directly with the providers you choose.

Kite Areas with beginner suitability recorded

These starting points span different destinations and countries. Each individual Kite Area explicitly records beginner suitability. Open the guide to compare its setting and local conditions, then use the full atlas to explore further options.

  • Abu Soma Bay

Soma Bay & Safaga, Egypt. A crystalline shallow lagoon that blows at least five knots harder than its neighbours — with offshore wind and mandatory rescue cover.

  • Ambatoloaka Beach

Nosy Be, Madagascar. Nosy Be's established kite beach, with schools and rental on it and the south-east trades from April to November.

  • Atlantis Kite Beach

Bonaire, Caribbean Netherlands. Around two hundred metres of flat, shallow water on Bonaire's west coast — the island's kite beach, with nothing built on it.

  • Avon

Cape Hatteras, United States. Home of Kite Point, a shallow sandy spit on Pamlico Sound and the island's most sociable launch — flat, forgiving and easy to read.

  • Badesi

Sardinia, Italy. Five kilometres of shallow beach on the north coast where the wind always comes in sideways — forgiving for learners, with waves for the rest.

  • Ban Tai Beach

Koh Phangan, Thailand. Koh Phangan's main kite beach, working on the steady south-easterly from January to April and the variable south-westerly in summer.

  • Banda Aceh Kite Area

Banda Aceh, Indonesia. A warm Sumatran coast between jungle and mountains, with flat areas to ride between small spaced waves.

  • Barr Al Hikman Lagoons

Barr Al Hikman, Oman. Three shallow lagoons within thirty kilometres, turquoise over white coral sand, reached by boat from Masirah.

  • Bofa Beach, Kilifi

Watamu & Kilifi Coast, Kenya. A reef lagoon at Kilifi where the Kaskazi blows side-onshore from ten in the morning, and the tide decides the day.
