About this Kite Area
Barr Al Hikman holds three main lagoons within a thirty-kilometre radius on Oman's east coast — shallow, turquoise, edged with white coral sand and almost always empty.
The wind is monsoon-driven and strong. The season runs May through September, with July and August the peak, and sources put the range at 15 to 40 knots, with around 225 days a year above 12 knots. The khareef brings cooler conditions here than the surrounding desert, which matters in a Gulf summer.
Protected sandbars keep the water flat, making these genuine learning lagoons while still holding up on the stronger days.
Access is the constraint rather than the conditions. Guided boat trips from nearby Masirah Island are the recommended route, and tide schedules govern when and where water is usable — this needs planning with an operator rather than a drive and a look. On calmer days there is paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkelling, and very little else.
