About Barr Al Hikman

Barr Al Hikman is a peninsula on Oman's east coast, and it holds three lagoons within a thirty-kilometre radius — shallow, turquoise, edged with white coral sand and, for most of the year, entirely empty.

The wind is monsoon-driven. The season runs May through September, with July and August the strongest, and the khareef brings cooler conditions than the surrounding desert. Sources put the range at 15 to 40 knots, with around 225 days a year above 12 knots.

The water is the draw: flat, protected by sandbars, and shallow enough to make this a genuine learning environment while still giving experienced riders something on the stronger days.

Access is the difficulty. Guided boat trips from nearby Masirah Island are the recommended route, and the tide schedule governs when and where the water is usable. This is a place for a planned trip with an operator rather than a spontaneous drive, and there is little here beyond the lagoons — paddleboarding, kayaking and snorkelling on the calm days.
