About this Kite Area
Atlantis Beach on Bonaire's west coast is the island's designated kite spot, and its virtue is simplicity: roughly two hundred metres of flat water with minimal depth, over sand, on a leeward shore.
Wind is exceptionally steady here by Caribbean standards — 15 to 25 knots through most of the year, strongest from May to August, easing to 12 to 18 knots from September to December. December to June is the best season, with water around 28°C and air around 30°C.
There are no resorts on the beach itself; accommodation sits ten to twenty minutes away by car, so a rental is close to essential. Pink Beach to the south is choppier with occasional small waves for stronger riders. Lac Bay, the island's famous shallow lagoon, is reserved for windsurfing and kites are not allowed there.
