The windiest corner of the eastern Caribbean, with reef-sheltered flats on the south coast and swell outside them.

About Barbados South Coast

Barbados sits further east than any other Caribbean island, exposed to the full run of the Atlantic trades, and its wind statistics are among the best in the region. The season runs December to July.

The riding is concentrated on the south coast. Silver Sands — Silver Rocks to locals — is the centre of it, with the schools, the beach bars and the crowd. Long Beach, alongside it, is far quieter and the better place to practise without an audience. Worthing Beach offers some of the flattest water on the island, with resort amenities immediately behind.

The pattern is consistent: flat water inside the reefs, where beginners and improvers stay, and wave breaks outside them that are strictly for experts. Positioning matters — the island's windsurfing fleet shares the same water, and it is easy to be carried into it.

Beyond the beach, Barbados is a full holiday island with a serious food culture, and it is one of the easiest Caribbean destinations to reach from Europe.
