About this Kite Area
Silver Sands, known locally as Silver Rocks, is the premier kitesurfing beach on Barbados — the schools are here, and so are the beach bars from which the rest of the island watches. Long Beach runs alongside it and is far less crowded, which makes it the better place to practise without an audience.
Barbados sits further east than any other Caribbean island and takes the trades unobstructed; its wind statistics are among the best in the region, with the season running December through July.
The structure is the island's: flat water inside the reefs, where beginners and improvers stay, and wave breaks outside them that are for experts only. Positioning matters more than usual here, because the same water carries a windsurfing fleet and it is easy to be accelerated into it. Three schools operate locally and gear rental is available on the beach.
