About Ekas Bay, Lombok

Ekas Bay lies on the wild southern coast of Lombok, a long way from the island's tourist centre and reached on rough roads. It is quiet in a way Bali stopped being decades ago.

The riding centres on Kaliantan, a windy stretch of white sand fronting clear water and a reef-protected lagoon. The tide decides which sport you get: at low water the lagoon inside the reef goes butter flat, ideal for freestyle and freeriding, while at high water with swell running there are proper waves breaking outside on the reef.

The season runs with the south-east trades through the middle of the year. IKO-certified instruction is available on site, from first kite control through to riding upwind, which makes this workable as a learning destination despite the remoteness.
