About this Kite Area
The kitesurfing at Ekas Bay happens at Kaliantan, a windy stretch of white sand beach bordered by clear blue water on Lombok's remote southern coast.
The tide decides the day. At low water the lagoon inside the reef goes butter flat — the sources' phrase — which is ideal for freestyle and freeriding. At high water with swell running, waves break outside on the reef and it becomes a wave spot.
IKO-certified instruction runs here from first kite control through body dragging and water starts to riding upwind, which makes it viable as a learning destination despite how far it is from anywhere.
Published detail on wind strength, water depth and specific hazards for this bay is thinner than for Bali or Sumbawa. Confirm conditions with the local operator before travelling, and treat the reef as the defining feature it is.
