About Aruba

Aruba lies outside the hurricane belt off the Venezuelan coast, a dry, cactus-covered island with a windward side that takes the full Atlantic and a leeward side that does not. That division defines the riding.

The north-east trades blow with unusual constancy — 15 to 25 knots for most of the year, peaking at up to 30 knots between June and August. On the sheltered north-west coast, Hadicurari, better known as Fisherman's Huts, gives relatively flat water and a wide sandy beach; it is where the schools work and where most people learn. On the south-eastern tip, Boca Grandi is the opposite: open ocean, real swell, and conditions that reward experienced wave riders.

Off the water Aruba is the most developed of the ABC islands, with the beach hotels, restaurants and diving that go with that, and a dry, sunny climate that barely varies. It is an easy island to bring people to who have no interest in kiting at all.
