About this Kite Area
Boca Grandi sits on the south-eastern tip of Aruba, facing open ocean, and it is the island's wave spot. Prevailing trade winds arrive strong here, and the swell that reaches this shore is the reason experienced riders make the drive.
The beach is sand with minimal reef, so the water itself is relatively clean of obstacles — the demand comes from the wind strength and the swell rather than from what is underneath. Trades run 15 to 25 knots across the year and reach up to 30 knots in the June-to-August peak, though the island is rideable year-round.
Riders wanting flat water and a learning environment go to Hadicurari, better known as Fisherman's Huts, on the sheltered north-west coast instead.
