About this Kite Area
Lakey Peak sits on the south coast of Sumbawa, undeveloped and far less crowded than Lombok or Bali. The wind season is narrow and definite: July to October, with August averaging 21 knots and July 23. By November it is gone — the same source records two knots.
There are three named peaks. The Peak carries two to four metre waves; The Pipe breaks fast and left; Nungas gives longer, smaller waves with strong currents. All of it breaks fast over reef, which is what makes this expert water and nothing else. Low tide leaves the reef dangerously shallow.
Water runs 28 to 29°C year-round and the sea is turquoise over white sand. Bring kites from seven to eleven metres depending on your weight.
Amenities amount to basic guesthouses and small eateries. As one source puts it, there is almost nothing to do here besides kiteboarding and surfing — which, for the riders who come, is the entire point.
