About this Kite Area
Porto Pollo, near Palau on the northern coast, is one of the windiest places in Italy and in the Mediterranean, for a simple geographic reason: the Strait of Bonifacio between Sardinia and Corsica funnels and accelerates the airflow straight into the bay.
The site is really two bays with opposing wind patterns — one that works for waves and one that holds flat water — so the choice of side is the choice of day. Ponente and Mistral dominate. There is a long sandy beach with ample launch space, and the spot handles both learners and experienced riders.
Proximity to Corsica makes northern Sardinian wind gustier than the south, which is the trade-off for the strength. July to September are the most reliable months here.
