About this Kite Area
Isla Blanca is a strip of sand reaching north from Cancún, with a shallow lagoon on the landward side and open Caribbean on the other. The lagoon is sandy-bottomed and consistently flat, which makes it as good a place to take a first lesson as it is to drill freestyle.
Wind is side-onshore from the north-east, driven by a mix of thermal and trade patterns, and runs 15 to 25 knots most reliably from November through May. Beginners stay in the lagoon; stronger riders cross to the ocean side for waves.
The spot is well served — emergency and medical services, rescue, kite repair, restaurants, showers, toilets and parking are all present. Access is twenty-five to thirty minutes north of Cancún airport, though the last stretch is sand and a car with some clearance helps; most schools run their own transport.
