About this Kite Area
Galu Beach is the southern continuation of the Diani lagoon and the quieter of the two riding areas: powdery white sand, turquoise water and considerably more space than the developed end to the north. Kite schools operating here describe the southern stretch as the calmer one and the better place to learn.
Wind and tide are shared with Diani. Kaskazi blows from the north-east December to March at 15 to 20 knots almost daily, strongest through the early afternoon; Kusi blows from the south-east June to September at 15 to 25 knots with more swell on the reef. The tidal range reaches four metres — low water shallow and flat, high water deeper and choppier.
As at Diani, the sandy entry conceals rock, coral, broken shell and sea urchins, and reef boots are standard equipment.
