Viganj sits on the Pelješac peninsula facing Korčula across a narrow sea channel, and that channel is the whole story — it accelerates the wind and has made this one of the windiest and best-known wind-sports spots in Croatia.

The maestral, a thermal north-westerly, dominates from June through August, typically starting around one or two in the afternoon and dropping by six or seven. The bora from the north-east and the jugo from the south also appear seasonally.

The water is crystal clear at around 24°C in peak season, but the conditions are not forgiving: deep water close to shore, currents, ship traffic and swimmers all share the channel, and the launch area is notably small — riders report space for one kite at a time, with bars and beachgoers immediately behind. Rated for all levels on paper, it is realistically an intermediate-to-advanced spot.

The village has schools, rental, shops, restaurants and a lively evening scene, and Dubrovnik and the Dalmatian islands are within reach.
