Kite Area guide
Kiwengwa, Zanzibar East Coast
Kiwengwa sits further north, and its deeper water is the reason to come: it stays usable at low tide when Paje and Jambiani have emptied out.
When to kite
Best months: December, January, February, March, June, July, August, September.
About this Kite Area
Kiwengwa lies on the north-eastern side of Zanzibar, along a stretch of coast better known for resorts than for kitesurfing. Its distinguishing feature is depth: sources describe deeper water that remains suitable at low tide, including for wingfoilers, when the shallow lagoons further south have drained.
The monsoon pattern is the island's — Kuzi from the south-east between June and September, Kaskazi between December and March.
Beyond that, detailed local information on launches, zones and hazards here is thin in the available sources, and is worth confirming with an operator before travelling.
