Kite Area guide

Jambiani, Zanzibar East Coast

Jambiani is Paje's calmer neighbour: the same reef lagoon and the same monsoons, in a fishing village that has kept more of its own life.

When to kite

Best months: December, January, February, March, June, July, August, September.

About this Kite Area

Jambiani lies a few kilometres south of Paje along the same reef lagoon, and is the quieter of the two. The sources describe it as a calm spot with wind blowing consistently parallel to the shoreline, and a shallow lagoon that goes flat at low tide — a combination that makes it one of the more forgiving places to learn on Zanzibar.

Wind and season are shared with the rest of the east coast: Kuzi from the south-east June to September, up to 25 knots and strongest in July and August; Kaskazi December to March at around 20 knots.

The village behind the beach is a working fishing settlement rather than a kite resort, which is much of its appeal and also means fewer services on the sand.
