About this Kite Area
Valdevaqueros lies ten kilometres north-west of Tarifa along the N-340, a broad arc of sand beneath the Punta Paloma dunes and the beach around which the town's kitesurfing turns. Tarifa's municipal tourism service marks separate zones here for kitesurfing, windsurfing and bathing, and names Levante as the beach's defining wind.
The water is working chop, not lagoon flat. In Poniente — the Atlantic westerly, onshore to cross-onshore at 15 to 25 knots — it is an even-tempered place to ride and to progress. In Levante it becomes something else: side-offshore, gusty, commonly 25 to 40 knots, kites down to five or seven metres, and drift away from the beach the thing to plan for. Rescue boats operate year-round.
Through the summer the beach carries schools, riders, windsurfers and swimmers within a narrow strip, and the parking behind the dunes fills early. Zones and restrictions are revised locally; confirm the current layout before rigging.
