About this Kite Area
Safaga is the port town immediately north of Soma Bay, and it sits within the same wind system — north-westerly, averaging 22 knots through the May-to-October season and rising to 25 to 30 in the afternoons, with an 80 to 90 per cent probability of a kiteable day year-round.
The water is the Red Sea's: shallow, warm and clear, reaching 28°C in summer and 20°C in winter.
The safety picture is the same as its neighbour's and needs the same respect: the prevailing direction on this stretch is offshore, so rescue boat cover is a requirement rather than an option, and shallow coral needs watching. Riding here should be organised through a station rather than independently.
