About this Kite Area
Puerto Velero is a sheltered bay on the Atlántico coast, and its water is the reason to come: flat and shallow, averaging around a metre and a half deep, which makes it excellent for freestyle and progression and a straightforward place to learn.
The season runs December to April, with wind averaging around 30 knots and reaching up to 45 in the strongest weeks — powerful for a flat-water bay, so kite selection matters more than the depth might suggest.
It sits forty-five minutes from Barranquilla and about an hour and a quarter from Cartagena. The wave beaches at Santa Verónica and Salinas del Rey are a few minutes away for anyone who wants the other kind of day.
