About this Kite Area
Prasonisi sits at the southern tip of Rhodes, about ninety kilometres from the town, where a sandbar joins a headland to the island and separates two seas. On one side the water is flat; on the other it is choppy and wavy. You can change conditions entirely by walking a few metres.
It carries the strongest and most regular wind on the island, the summer Meltemi from the north and north-west, and the season runs June to September. It is not a beginner's spot. The flat side blows offshore, the beach carries rocks and vehicle traffic, rescue is expensive, and in high summer the crowd is heavy. Schools run managed lessons in designated zones, but unaccompanied beginners are out of place here.
For those with the hours, it is one of the more remarkable pieces of geography in European kitesurfing, and it serves freeride, wave, freestyle and big air riders equally. Parking, food, bars, schools, rental and seasonal accommodation are all on site.
