About this Kite Area
Pounta faces Antiparos across the channel and is the main kitesurfing beach on Paros. The beach is sandy, and the water flat and shallow for the first five to ten metres before dropping away to a fair depth — worth knowing before a first lesson.
The Meltemi arrives side-shore to side-onshore, mainly from the north-north-west, reaching up to 20 knots and more and strengthening through the afternoon. Above 20 knots the water gets choppy. There is no significant shorebreak.
The season runs May to September, but the compact high season is roughly eight weeks across July and August. Two schools operate here, and even in peak season an advanced independent rider can find space.
Athens is forty minutes away by air, or three to four hours by ferry from Piraeus.
