Kite Area guide

Moledo, Northern Portugal Coast

Moledo lies close to the Minho river and the Spanish border, with the island fort of Ínsua offshore and far fewer people than the beaches to the south.

When to kite

Best months: March, April, May, June, July, August, September.

About this Kite Area

Moledo sits at the northern end of the Portuguese coast near Caminha, where the Minho river marks the Spanish border. The island fortress of Ínsua stands offshore, and the beach is the quietest of the three riding areas on this stretch.

It shares the coast's wind: the Nortada from the north to north-west, 15 to 25 knots through the season, with afternoon thermal reinforcement, and April to October as the reliable window.

Detailed local information on launch areas, currents and hazards here is thinner in the available sources than for Esposende or Viana do Castelo, and the beach is more exposed. Worth confirming conditions with a school before riding.
