About this Kite Area
The lagoon at Le Morne is held by a barrier reef and sits between roughly half a metre and a metre and a half deep, moving with the tide. The wind arrives from the south-east, side-shore from the left, averaging 15 to 25 knots through the season and running to around 35 in the strongest weeks of July and August.
Kite Beach is the roomier end and the natural place to learn or to rebuild confidence, with standing depth across long stretches at lower water. Kite Point is its opposite — a narrow, gusty launch fringed by palms, for riders who already handle crowded, technical conditions. Little Reef and the outer wave zone, One Eye among the breaks, belong to advanced riders alone.
Low tide brings coral heads close to the surface; high tide takes away your footing and can push real current through the lagoon. Sea urchins are common on the bottom and stonefish, though rare, are present. Schools, rescue cover, shaded parking and food trucks are all on site, and the water is shared with resort and boat traffic.
