Kite Area guide
Jastarnia, Hel Peninsula
Jastarnia offers Chałupy's conditions without Chałupy's crowd: the same flat bay, in a fishing town that carries on regardless.
When to kite
Best months: April, May, June, July, August, September.
About this Kite Area
Jastarnia lies further out along the Hel Peninsula and gives conditions much like those at Chałupy — the shallow, sandy, waist-deep water of the Bay of Puck — with a distinctly less touristy atmosphere. It is a working town with a harbour, rather than a strip of campsites.
The wind pattern is the peninsula's: dominant westerlies giving reliable side-shore conditions, with no trade or thermal system to depend on. Northerly and easterly directions send riders across to the Baltic side.
The season runs May to September. Summer bay water reaches 20°C and above; a 4/3 wetsuit remains the sensible choice.
