About this Kite Area
Chałupy sits near the base of the Hel Peninsula on the sheltered Bay of Puck, and its campsites are the centre of gravity for kitesurfing in Poland. The bay here is shallow and sandy — waist-deep for a very long way, with no reef and nothing hard to hit.
Wind is the variable. There are no trades and no reliable thermals on the Baltic; westerlies dominate and give good side-shore conditions, but the forecast decides the day. The peninsula's narrowness is the saving grace — with the bay on one side and the open sea on the other, northerly and easterly winds send people across to the Baltic side or to the Mewie Rewy sandbar instead.
The season runs May to September, when the campsites open and the whole beach takes on a festival atmosphere. Summer water runs 20°C and above, but a 4/3 is the sensible call; shorties rarely do.
