About this Kite Area
Lahami Bay lies at the southern end of this stretch of Red Sea coast, and its defining feature is the reef: a two-kilometre barrier that holds the lagoon flat even when the wind picks up. Inside it, the water is shallow and open — a strong freestyle and progression spot as well as a forgiving place to learn. Outside the reef there are medium waves for riders who want them.
Wind is strong and reliable through the year, typically gusting 15 to 25 knots. November to March gives consistent winter wind, and summer blows almost as steadily. As across this coast the wind is thermal, so forecasts under-read it — local schools are the better guide.
It is remote. Marsa Alam airport is about two and a half hours by car, public transport is effectively absent, and a transfer needs arranging in advance. Temperatures run from 20°C in winter, when a light wetsuit helps, to 40°C in summer.
