About this Kite Area

El Cotillo lies on the north-west coast of Fuerteventura, a low white town with a string of beaches and lagoons around it. For kitesurfing the sources describe it as suiting experienced riders, with gusty conditions that can exceed 20 knots.

Wind here is the same trade-wind system as the rest of the island — the north-easterly Alisios, strongest May to August — but the exposure and the terrain make it less even than the organised bays near Corralejo.

Detailed launch, zone and hazard information for this stretch is thinner in the available sources than for Corralejo, and is worth confirming locally before riding.
