About this Kite Area
The bay in front of El Médano is the main riding area and the reason the town works as a base. The sources describe a large beach with onshore wind that lets beginners take their first tacks in complete safety, while the same water serves intermediate and advanced riders on stronger days.
The trades are north-easterly and side-onshore, running 15 to 35 knots depending on the season and holding 20 to 30 knots consistently from June to September. There is no single season: May to September and November to March both deliver.
Tide matters more than it first appears. Low tide gives the most space and the best conditions; at high tide the beach compresses, kite traffic concentrates and rocks become harder to see. Granadilla City Council operates a free rescue service here with a boat and jet ski.
