Kite Area guide
Mangroovy Beach, El Gouna
The beach El Gouna's kitesurfing revolves around — a long shallow flat with stations end to end and wind that builds through the morning and holds all afternoon.
When to kite
Best months: March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November.
About this Kite Area
Mangroovy Beach runs along the seaward edge of El Gouna and is where most of the town's kitesurfing happens. The bottom is sand, the water waist-deep for hundreds of metres, and the wind comes in side-shore to cross-onshore — the combination that makes this one of the most forgiving places anywhere to take a first lesson or a first freestyle attempt.
The thermal cycle is predictable: light early, building through the late morning, holding through the afternoon. Expect 15 to 25 knots between March and November, frequently above 20 in high summer. The sea runs 25 to 30°C from May to October and 19 to 21°C in winter, when a 4/3 wetsuit is needed.
Access is through the kite stations along the beach, which charge a daily fee and provide compressors, storage, rescue boats and food. Sea urchins can be an issue on low water in places. Confirm the day's launch boundary, permitted area and rescue arrangement with the operating station before going out.
