About this Kite Area

St Joris Bay sits on Curaçao's north-east coast, a large natural lagoon surrounded by mangroves on the side of the island most visitors never see. North-east trade winds arrive predictably, side-shore, across a setup of around 250 metres with more than a kilometre of downloop available.

The bay is big enough to ride for kilometres and walk back downwind. Water state varies: the main area runs choppy to flat, while a butter-spot upwind gives completely flat water for speed and trick work.

February through mid-June is the peak, with strong, consistent wind; July and August ease off; September to November is generally not worth planning around. It suits intermediate and advanced riders — shallow sections, rock islands and sea turtles are all part of the bay, and it is shared with windsurfers, fishermen, horses and motorbikes onshore. Booties are recommended unless you go upwind reliably.
