Kite Area guide

La Boquilla, Cartagena Coast

La Boquilla is the city's kite beach: wide, shallow and calm enough that most people learn here, a quarter of an hour from the walls.

When to kite

Best months: December, January, February, March, April.

About this Kite Area

La Boquilla sits about fifteen minutes north of Cartagena's historic centre and is where the city's kitesurfing happens. The beach is wide and free of obstacles, the water shallow and calm, and the wind arrives side-onshore — the combination that makes it the region's main learning ground while still working for stronger riders.

Trade winds run from December to April at 15 to 25 knots, gusting from around 11 to 27 across the season, and the water is choppy rather than flat. Air temperatures hold near 30°C year-round and the sea is warm enough that no wetsuit is needed.

Several schools operate along the beach. The great advantage is proximity: a session here and dinner inside the walled city the same evening.
