About this Kite Area
Sunset Beach sits at the northern end of the Blouberg run and is the usual starting point for downwinders along this coast. The sources note that the wind arrives earlier and blows stronger here than at the beaches below it, which is exactly why the downwinders begin from this end.
The trade-off is the shore break, which is large and demands caution from anyone still building hours. Combined with a south-easterly that keeps strengthening through the afternoon, this is a beach for riders who are comfortable in real conditions.
The season is the Cape's: October to March, peaking December to February, over water at 18 to 21°C in a 4/3 wetsuit.
