Best months: October, November, December, January, February, March.
About this Kite Area
Dolphin Beach is the busiest and best known of the Blouberg beaches, and it earns it: the sources describe well-spaced wave sets ranging from one to four metres, on a south-easterly that arrives cross-onshore with Table Mountain across the bay behind you.
The season runs October to March and peaks December to February. The Cape Doctor strengthens through the afternoon, so on a strong forecast the morning is where you find anything under thirty knots.
It gets crowded in peak season, and the standard local advice is to head upwind for space. Wave-riding right of way is taken seriously here and worth knowing before you go out. Water sits at 18 to 21°C and a 4/3 wetsuit is standard; the air at around 23°C feels far colder in the wind.
