About this Kite Area
Bulabog sits on the windward east side of Boracay, opposite White Beach, and is where the island's kitesurfing is concentrated. An offshore reef holds a shallow bay that rides mostly flat and turns choppier as the tide comes up, with waves breaking out on the reef itself for riders who want them.
The Amihan, the north-east monsoon, runs from around late October to the end of March — sometimes into April — and blows side-onshore at roughly 15 to 25 knots, occasionally above thirty. It is usually stronger in the morning, which is when most people ride. From May to September the Habagat blows from the south-west and conditions here become unreliable.
Tide governs the day. On a high tide the water comes far enough up the beach that there is little room left to rig and launch, so sessions are planned around it. The bottom is rocky and coral in places and sea urchins are common in the shallows, so booties are standard. The bay is compact and busy in season, busiest around Christmas, Chinese New Year and Easter.
